Hello, I am Kangle (David) Ding, from P.R. China. I was born in northeast of China, and have an elder sister, who is engineer in a computer company. My father is a professor and mum is worker, and they both retire now and now located in Qingdao which is a beautiful city near sea. I am now a university teacher of Yangtze University in China. Perhaps the word "average" can best describe me. I am of short height, and a little strong. I have double-lid eyes. My hair is black, short and a little curly. I have never worn my hair long. I look like both my mother and my father, but I have inherited their best parts.
I have many hobbies: writing, singing and football games are my hobbies, etc. Yes, I like volleyball very much, but I can't play it very often, because it is a team sport. It is difficult to get enough people to play football with me. It's a shame. I derive great pleasure out of my hobbies.
Generally speaking, I am open, honest and easy-going. I hate hypocrisy and injustice. Fairness is very important to me. I try to be fair in everything I do. I have great appreciation for physical and spiritual independence. My elder sister is a devout Christian and I also believe in God and persist in reading Bible every day.
I don't have many friends, but I do have a few. I have both male and female friends. We do sports together, go shopping together; and we exchange our views and ideas and share happiness and sadness. Of course we help each other if necessary. I always consider myself a lucky person. I am lucky in my family, I am lucky in my career, I am lucky in my friendship, I am lucky in many things. In one word, I am lucky in life. I am really grateful for all these.
I have spent at least five years in studying Thermochemical Sulfate Reduction (TSR), a chemical reaction between natural gas and calcium sulfate, which is regarded as the main reason for the generation of high H2S concentrations (>10%) of natural gases. The H2S produced in TSR will lead to serious air pollution due to its high toxicity and affects the exploration of natural gas. I was ever so proud of my academic achievements in TSR .

Last year I gradually realized that many Chinese including me would rather pay more attention to energy crisis and the exploration of more petroleum & natural gas than care about our deteriorating environment. I am domiciled in Jingzhou which was once a beautiful city and rich in clean lakes and rivers. Now almost ninety percent of the rivers are seriously polluted. The processing of pesticides and other chemicals produces lots of industrial wastewater which still can not be treated well in our country. I must admit that our local government and the scientific researchers related did try to solve the above problem, but we have not found an effective method or technology to deal with the water pollution, which really worries me a lot. My wife (Shasha Wang) is pregnant for about 3 months. If the water pollution can not be entirely settled, I could not imagine what kind of water my children will drink in the near future. I keenly feel that our knowledge should not be limited in theory, and any scientist have the obligation and duty to deal with the practical problems that happen in our daily life.
Scientists and researchers in the School of Engineering of Griffith University had done a good job in water treatment. I expect that, under their guide or through some collaboration, we could alleviate or solve the serious pollution of rivers in Jingzhou city. Besides the reason above, I also regard this visit as a good chance of improving myself (in scientific research, I mean). The visiting appointment commences on 16 July 2009 and will conclude 15 July 2010. I really expect to visit Griffith University on time and learn from my future colleagues.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT MY EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

I graduated from Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology(presently known as Qingdao University of Science & Technology) as a Bachelor of Chemical Pharmaceutics in July, 1999. Because of the harsh economic climate caused by the Asian financial crisis, it is very hard for me to find an acceptable job at that time. I decided to take part in postgraduate entrance examination and thought a Master degree could bring me a bright future. Because there were too many like-minded university graduates who wanted to go on with their education and whereby changed their fates, the competition for passing the postgraduate entrance examination was fierce. The postgraduate entrance examination is once considered as the most difficult exam in China. From July, 1999 to July, 2001, I did not look for any job and devoted to preparing for the postgraduate entrance examination. I failed in the postgraduate entrance examination 2000, but successfully passed the entrance examination 2001. From Sep, 2001 to Jul, 2004, I studied as a Master candidate in School of Chemical Engineering, China University of Petroleum, Beijing. During my research of oil & gas chemistry, I was fascinated by chemical experiments and realized that scientific research had become my favorite, and hoped that in the future I could be a university professor. Naturally, after my graduation from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) in Jul, 2004, I decided to continue my research, which received my parents' support and encouragement. It took me about half a year for preparing for the Doct[ --- censored --- ] candidate entrance examination which began in Jan, 2005. In Apr, 2005, I was informed that I had got through the exam and in Sep, 2005, I went back to China University of Petroleum as a PhD candidate. From Feb, 2005 to Sep, 2005, I devoted to investigating and researching on scientific literatures related to the field of oil & gas, which was proved a wise move in my later scientific research. In July, 2008, I graduatd from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) as a Ph.D, and was employed in Yangtze University. I wish in the near future I could realize my ideal, to become a university professor. My employment history is neither complex nor long. I hope the above information will assist your well understanding me.
